On Monday, May 20 from 7:00-8:30pm, Vice president of the Greenbelt Trail Conference, Tom Casey will talk to us about the “other Long Island” as seen on the Greenbelt Trail.  With over 200 miles of hiking paths that stretch from the Long Island Sound to the Great South Bay, and through Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the trail provides you with hours of hikes filled with stillness, flora, fauna and striking views just steps from your door.  Free.

As we approach the summer season, this fundraiser is knocking on summer’s door – Martin Viette Nurseries brings flowers to the forefront with a “Flower Power” themed fundraiser to benefit the Conservation District of Nassau and the Interfaith Nutrition Network on June 14, 2013 between 5 - 8PM at Martin Viette Nurseries Inc 6050 Northern Boulevard, East Norwich, NY 11732. Working with experts in horticulture to build community gardens that are also eco-friendly and will enhance the quality of life for the residents of Nassau County, environmental awareness is the goal of the benefit.

Northport Historical Society’s popular garden tou is back and promises to once again be blooming with beautiful gardens. As always, a number of homeowners have invited us to share in the glory of their gardens from the classic to the contemporary. The self-guided tour runs from noon to 4 p.m. There will also be a raffle of garden-related items, which will be on display at one of the gardens with winners drawn at the conclusion of the tour. Tickets are $25 for Society members; $30 for non-members and will be available beginning May 15th.

Members and friends of the Northport Historical Society are invited to pack their favorite picnic blanket and food and join us at Scudder Beach, 10 Beach Avenue, Northport, from 3 to 6 p.m. for some good old-fashioned summer fun. We’ll provide family-friendly cold beverages and desserts, and there will be lots of fun and games for kids and adults alike. Reservations are required no later than July 7th. Northport Historical Society members are free; the cost for others is $10 per family.
